Pilot Overview (90 minutes)

Asia Society President, DR. BOB OXNAM (late-40s), wakes up in a Taiwan hotel with a severe headache and cigarette burns on his body, having no memory of where he’d been or what he’d done for the last 3 days. He hurries back to The States to a stress-induced schedule—juggling a university lecture, a national TV interview with Tom Brokaw, an art exhibit opening, and putting out fires to keep buttressing Sino-American relations, but the mysterious blackouts continue with long unexplained lunches to god-knows-where. And his usual go-to rejuvenation activity, sailing, is becoming more rage than relaxation.

Then the bloody massacre at Tiananmen Square  sends shockwaves around the world and into Bob. Officially, he must support ongoing engagement with China, but unofficially, he is morally outraged. Conflicted, he takes his outrage public, defying the Asia Society board. A death in the family sends Bob over the edge, where he finds he can no longer suppress the ghosts of his past, ghosts that insist on being heard and seen. But Bob may have the last word. And the consequences could be deadly.
